Is the buccal swab accurate?
An alternative to testing blood is a method of sample collection using buccal (cheek) swabs. Since the DNA is the same in every cell of the body, the accuracy of testing performed on cheek cells collected with a swab is the same as using blood.
Does the child have to be a certain age to perform a DNA paternity test?
There are no age restrictions with DNA paternity testing since DNA is set at conception.
How accurate is DNA testing?
DNA testing is the most accurate form of paternity testing possible and our laboratory offers dual processing of all cases to ensure the accuracy of the testing process.
How long does it take to get results?
Our accredited lab partners complete father and child paternity tests within two to five business days from the day that our lab partners receive the samples in the laboratory.
Relationship tests (for example sibling, grandparent, etc.) typically finish in three to six working days from the day that they receive the samples in the laboratory.
DNA detection and infidelity tests typically take seven to ten working days.
Are results confidential?
Yes. Mobile Rapid DNA understands that paternity testing is a sensitive issue and will only issue results to the requesting agency that scheduled the testing.
Do I need an attorney and/or court order?
Generally, no. In NY the laws are different.
How much does a DNA test cost in California?
Mobile Rapid DNA provides accurate, confidential and affordable DNA testing in California. Our court admissible DNA test is $425.
What is the chain-of-custody procedure?
A strict chain-of-custody is maintained to ensure the admissiblitiy of test results in a court of law. All parties are required to provide a government issued photo ID, and all parties are photographed
Can medications, drugs or blood transfusions affect test results?
DNA tests are not affected by medications, drugs or blood transfusions. Buccal swabs should be collected when an individual has been receiving transfusions or has undergone a bone marrow transplant.
What does it mean when the result for the tested man says he is NOT excluded as the father?
This result means the tested man does have the DNA required to be the father.
What does it mean when the result for the tested man says he IS EXCLUDED as the father?
This result means the tested man did not have the DNA required to be the father.
How is DNA extracted?
Think of DNA as a cell’s control center, housed within the nucleus. DNA is extracted from cheek cells by carefully breaking them down and isolating the genetic material. Our Lab partners use scientific expertise along with robotic instruments for precision and accuracy their advanced equipment ensures accurate and efficient DNA extraction.
Once the DNA is extracted, it is combined with a special mixture containing chemicals that support the PCR process. These chemicals include primers, short pieces of DNA labeled with fluorescent tags that target the specific DNA region of interest. The mixture also contains DNA building blocks (A, T, C, G) and an enzyme called DNA polymerase, which helps replicate the DNA.
What type of DNA tests are used for testing?
There are two different kinds of paternity DNA tests available, but what is used in our labs is the one known as PCR (Polymerase chain reaction).
PCR: The Gold Standard in Paternity Testing
When it comes to paternity DNA testing, PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) is the most advanced and reliable method available. This technique allows our labs to conclusively determine whether a man is the biological father of a child.
Simple Sample Collection:
Unlike older methods, PCR requires only a simple cheek swab for DNA collection. This non-invasive procedure is easy and painless, making it suitable for people of all ages.
Unwavering Accuracy:
PCR offers unparalleled accuracy. A non-paternity result is reported with 0% certainty, while a positive paternity result is typically reported with a greater than 99.99% accuracy rate. This high level of precision is due to the advanced technology used in PCR analysis.
Enhanced Confidence:
Previously, a Combined Paternity Index (CPI) of 100 to 500 was considered sufficient for court cases. However, PCR technology now allows for CPIs of at least 10,000, providing even greater confidence in the results.
Trust in PCR
If you’re seeking a definitive answer to paternity questions, PCR is the most reliable and accurate method available. Choose Rapid Mobile DNA for cutting-edge paternity testing that delivers results you can trust.

Can I use my legal paternity test results to obtain child support?
Our accredited partner testing labs follow a strict chain of custody, which makes the results defensible in courts and other government agencies. Many of our clients use their test results to obtain child support and for other important legal purposes, such as validating claims for Social Security benefits or inheritances.
What is a “chain-of-custody”?
Chain of Custody: Ensuring Legal Defensibility
At Mobile Rapid DNA, we prioritize the integrity of our paternity tests to ensure their legal defensibility. The chain of custody process is a critical component that guarantees the reliability and admissibility of our results in courts and government agencies.
Here’s how we ensure a strong chain of custody:
Proper Identification: We verify and document the identities of all tested parties using government-issued identification.
Neutral Sample Collection: To maintain impartiality, our tests are conducted by neutral third parties. Mobile Rapid DNA coordinates this process for your convenience.
Secure Sample Handling: DNA samples are carefully sealed and tamper-taped at the collection site. Upon receipt by our accredited laboratory partners, they are inspected for any signs of tampering.
By partnering with leading, accredited laboratories, we ensure that our paternity test results are legally defensible. This means you can confidently use them for legal matters like child custody, child support, immigration, and more.
What do I need to bring to the appointment?
Appointment Day: What to Expect
When you arrive for your appointment, please have your government-issued identification ready for verification. Our sample collector will review your ID and make a photocopy. Unless you sent them via email ahead of time.
After confirming your identity, you’ll be asked to sign a consent form/Chain of custody. If you’re the legal guardian of a minor, you’ll need to sign on their behalf.
The DNA collection process is quick and painless. Our collector will use cotton-like swabs to gently collect cheek cells from the inside of your cheeks. These samples will then be securely packaged and sent to our laboratory for analysis.
We’ve designed our sample collection process to be as convenient and hassle-free as possible.
